"AMERICANO"

50.5" x 62.5"

The term "Americano," derived from the original "Caffè Americano," is steeped in history, with its roots often traced back to World War I. Folklore suggests the term "Americano" became popular when American Gls in Italy chose to dilute the typically strong and bitter Italian espresso with hot water, creating a drink that more closely resembled the coffee they drank back home, hence the name "Americano."

The word "Americano" means "American," suggesting that this type of coffee might have an earlier heritage. Cowboys in the American West, unable to carry luxuries and perishables like cream or sugar, had to develop a taste for good ol' coffee grounds boiled in water. Known today as "Cowboy coffee," it could be argued that this simpler brew stakes an earlier claim to the title of the original "Caffè Americano."
